A tour in Tervola center

Welcome for a photo tour in Tervola center. It’s a sunday afternoon and raining quite a lot, so don’t forget your umbrella.

I haven’t had a good look around there for years, so there were a few surprises for me, too.. There’s close to 30 photos in this entry, so on the main page select the link below to see the rest.

Sushi starts the holiday

My summer holiday begins now! Woohoo!

To celebrate I bought sushi. There’s a sushi bar “Sushi Cafe” in the Kauppahalli only 100m from here, but I haven’t visited it until now.

Of course, I had to play with the new camera a bit more, with close-ups this time. Here’s four photos framed in about similar way, with all levels of zoom (there’s 4 levels in this zoom, or in other words, two settings between “no zoom” and “maximum zoom”):

Statueman

There was a man painted in silver acting as a statue in Rotuaari:

The second one is zoomed, but with minimum setting. Just like this one:

Umm.. I don’t think there was any violet colour around, so the colour in the glasses is camera’s own invention.

Nokia 7610

Today I got a Nokia 7610, the latest S60 camera phone. It’s the first megapixel S60 phone, making images of 1152×864 pixels (previous ones were 640×480). Here are the first shots I did:

The image is a lot bigger. It’s also not distorted in the corners, but it’s very soft and the colours are a bit like “glowing”. Maybe fingerprints in the “lens” of this bigger resolution camera result in this effect? Must test this theory.

Anyway, there’s still no reason not to proudly describe this site having “lo-fi photos”. Especially after I tried the digital zoom feature of the camera… (be careful, the following photos are not pretty):

Oh, what a wonderful zoom this phone has! It’s almost possible to guess that there might be something building-like in the zoomed-in photo. The next one isn’t quite that ugly:

.. but it still looks like a bad joke at that resolution ;-) The zoom might be usable if it just cut a piece from the center of the image, saving it in lower resolution, and not scaling it up to Mpix.
Maybe I should scale all of the images down to 800×600 or so, it might improve the quality a bit and make viewing them in browser more pleasant.

Old buildings

I was feeling bored (after tuning RSS/PHP/CSS code for too long), and went walking around the city center for a while, playing tourist and snapping photos of old buildings. There are several around the market place and Rotuaari, but these are a bit further away:

While wandering about, I also found a new Asian food shop (“Sweet Thai Chili” or something, haven’t seen it before) and bought take-away Chinese food from a place on Uusikatu I first spotted two weeks ago. They had a very basic menu and their chili chicken wasn’t anything special. Too bad, a good Chinese fast food place would be welcome.

Juhannus

Yesterday was Juhannusaatto, the Midsummer eve. I was invited to friends’ place. ラッキー! It was raining heavily in the morning, but it became a pleasant summer day after all (よかった, since じてんしゃでいきました).

Rainy clouds, a bit wet road, and food :-) The mushrooms filled with blue cheese were especially good. ありがとうございます!
