Stranger in a Strange Land

I got more books :-)

  • Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein
  • The Death of Sleep by Anne McCaffrey and Jody Lynn Nye
  • A Game of Thrones by George R. Martin

.. and a couple more are on the way. I’ve got enough unread sci-fi books to last two years or so.

The Stranger in a Strange Land is the original uncut edition, which doesn’t seem to be as easily available as the originally published edition. Here’s a part of the explanation from the book’s preface:

This edition is the original one – the way Robert Heinlein first conceived it, and put it down on paper. The earlier edition contained a few words over 160,000, while this one runs around 220,000 words. <…> This book was so different from what was being sold to the general public, or to the science fiction reading public in 1961 when it was published, that the editors required some cutting and removal of a few scenes that might then have been offensive to public taste.

I’ve been looking forward to reading this one for a long time..

The Death of Sleep is the 2nd volume of Planet Pirates series. It’s not especially good sci-fi, but I read the first volume and just had to get the 2nd part.

A Game of Thrones, or rather the whole A Song of Fire and Ice series, holds the #1 position on The Internet Top 100 SF/Fantasy List. I’ve never read anything by George R. Martin, but there’s got to be something in it..
