Looking for a tree

On Monday evening I visited Törmävaara. My main target was to find a specific tree: the “dinosaur tree” I photographed 7 years ago. I had to wander around the stony hilltop for about 45 minutes before I found it:

Oops, someone didn’t remove his tripod before taking the photo..

Next to Vammavaara

From Pyhäportti we drove towards Vammavaara. The first road, which looked like a べんり shortcut in the map, proved to be something else. We turned back when it became hard to figure out in a crossing if the right branch of the road was going to nearby field or if it was the real road. This actual road to Vammavaara looks like a highway compared to that shortcut:

Here we have the nice, rocky little hill next to Vammavaara, and a view towards the forests from the top of it:

And here’s some details from the hill; they would make good additions to natural history photo gallery, but both of them were in places where setting up a tripod would be a pretty frustrating experience (even without the help of the millions of mosquitos and other bloodsuckers):

Pyhäportti

After the Tervola center photo tour I visited Pyhäportti rapids (in Vähäjoki, a small river which flows in the Kemijoki from east) with two friends. Most of the photographing was done with real cameras, but here’s a couple of lo-fi shots:

7610 also has a video recorder. I hadn’t even tried it before this trip.. The video is in .3gp file format, with H.263 video and AMR audio, new versions of RealPlayer should be able to play it. Click the following link to see if your computer can play it; it’s a short clip of the rapids from the same place as the first image of this entry: download

A tour in Tervola center

Welcome for a photo tour in Tervola center. It’s a sunday afternoon and raining quite a lot, so don’t forget your umbrella.

I haven’t had a good look around there for years, so there were a few surprises for me, too.. There’s close to 30 photos in this entry, so on the main page select the link below to see the rest.

Sushi starts the holiday

My summer holiday begins now! Woohoo!

To celebrate I bought sushi. There’s a sushi bar “Sushi Cafe” in the Kauppahalli only 100m from here, but I haven’t visited it until now.

Of course, I had to play with the new camera a bit more, with close-ups this time. Here’s four photos framed in about similar way, with all levels of zoom (there’s 4 levels in this zoom, or in other words, two settings between “no zoom” and “maximum zoom”):

Statueman

There was a man painted in silver acting as a statue in Rotuaari:

The second one is zoomed, but with minimum setting. Just like this one:

Umm.. I don’t think there was any violet colour around, so the colour in the glasses is camera’s own invention.
