Walking towards the bus stop, early and without coffee and deep in thought, and they almost got me with that damn fence which they had suddenly build in the middle of the sidewalk. Very funny. It was also another flag raising day, I was told it’s Puolustusvoimien lippujuhla. So, they have a specific day decicated for flag raising, as if there wasn’t a few flag raising days every month already..

On my way to iaido today (3 hours of bokken-swinging – I’ll probably have blisters in my hands, but now we started learning kata) I walked new route and spotted a radio repair shop, which had the following on a raised platform in the middle of the shop window:

Maybe it’s an artifact with protective spells? They don’t make radios like this any more..

Swordsman is a basic swordplay/martial arts movie from Hong Kong. There’s all the basic elements: an evil(?) eunuch overlord (whose voice sounds like it’s dubbed by a female voice actor to sound more eunuch-like), the kung-fu girl disguised as a man (who fools everyone but the viewer), more sects both competing and co-operating than a poor European can keep a track of, and of course superhuman martial artists and magic users fighting. Fun fun fun :-)

The chinese word which is usually translated as “yes” sounds exactly like はい. In this movie, I also spotted something which sounded like “dam daa” and meant something like “no good” – being pretty close to だめだ.

I’m also starting to like the soundtracks of the Chinese movies more and more. They’re probably the equivalents of iskelmä in there, but they sound like strange pop songs to me. I’m still looking for Chinese prog – so far my search for Chinese alternative music has resulted only in an all-girl Chinese punk band: Hang on the Box. I haven’t heard any of their songs, but I don’t expect them to have too much influence of traditional Chinese music in their songs..
